A summer Evensong at Westminster Abbey

We love singing at Westminster Abbey, so when they offered us a date in August to sing Evensong, we jumped at it. Although, being holiday time, we didn’t have many singers available. When Nick explained we only had ten singers at the moment, but were expecting to recruit a few more, the music department kindly…

Rehearsals going well… just 2 weeks to go

We have just one more half-day rehearsal for our concert on Saturday 14th October, and we’re really enjoying the music. Last Saturday was the first in ‘seating plan’ – the point when we find out just how well we know our parts! The Jonathan Dove piece ‘Seek Him that maketh the Seven Stars’ is a…

Westminster Abbey, 13-14 August 2021

We made it! The Abbey were taking what they described as a ‘cautious’ approach – only sixteen singers permitted, single-file and masks on for processing, the men sitting two rows behind the women and no congregation allowed in the quire. It was a bit of a shame that our many family and friends who came…

Hoping to sing at Westminster Abbey

Nothing is certain these days. We are booked to sing Evensong at one of our favourite cathedrals, Westminster Abbey, on 13th – 14th August 2021, but are awaiting confirmation. Fingers crossed.

We’ll be back in 2021!

It’s been a quiet year, having to cancel our trips to sing at both Westminster Abbey and Ripon cathedral. But we have plans for 2021, so we’re looking forward to singing together again soon.

This Christmas and plans for 2020

In December a small group of us are taking part in the biennial fund-raising concert for Amnesty International in Lewes. It’s at St Anne’s Church on Sunday 15th December at 7pm. There’ll be many other performers – it’s always a great event and packed out.  Tickets are £12 and on sale here. Come along and…

September concert – ‘Faire is the Heaven’

We’ve a concert coming up in Lewes, at St Michael’s Church, on Saturday 26th September at 6pm. We’re calling it ‘Faire is the Heaven’ after the anthem of that name by English composer William Harris. It’s one of two Harris anthems on the programme, which also includes two of J S Bach’s mighty motets, Komm, Jesu, Komm…

CD now on sale!

It’s been a labour of love but our CD is finally out. Full details are on this page. It’s available from Skylark (in the Needlemakers) in Lewes, online from this website and from members of the choir. Lots of lovely English music – motets/anthems and a few madrigals too. We’ll be singing some of the…

What we will sing at Westminster Abbey

We have the first of our two rehearsals for Westminster Abbey this weekend. Because some of our members come from a distance, and to maximise the time we have together, we tend to have just two rehearsals prior to a ‘gig’, either half-days or whole days. Everyone comes having already looked at the music (if…
