Our first concert in 2022 will be at St Michael’s Church in Lewes. It’s a fundraiser for the church, which is our primary venue for concerts and where we have been very much welcomed over the years. It’s also the church where Nick is the organist.
Heading our programme will be Hubert Parry’s marvellous Songs of Farewell. Alongside this will be a selection of lovely English (and Irish, to be fair to C.V. Stanford!) madrigals and choral songs from the 16th to 20th centuries, including Wilbye’s Weep, weep mine eyes, Stanford’s The Blue Bird and the joyous My Spirit Sang all Day by Gerald Finzi.
We’ve titled the concert ‘The lake lay blue below the hill’ which was the name of the very first concert we did back in December 2004. The phrase is the opening of The Blue Bird, words by Mary Coleridge.
Tickets are on sale online at concertfeb22.eventbrite.co.uk, price £12 (under 16s free).
